Matthew R. Bogosian is a Certified Family Law Specialist, certified by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and specializes in divorce, legal separation and nullity, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, the division of community property, confirmation of separate property, marital debt allocation, divorce mediation and premarital, post-nuptial and marital settlement agreements.

Upon graduation from Calabasas High School, he attended the University of California at Los Angeles where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, earned Departmental Honors, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society for outstanding academic achievement in liberal arts.

A child of divorce, Mr. Bogosian pursued his passion, the study of family law, at Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu. He received the second highest score in Family Law and the highest score in Advanced Family Law, an elite course taught by famed celebrity divorce lawyer Robert S. Kaufman.

Mr. Bogosian was among the first law students to complete the Certificate Program at Pepperdine's world renowned Institute for Dispute Resolution. At the Institute, Mr. Bogosian studied divorce mediation skills and won the American Jurisprudence Award in Negotiation and Settlement Advocacy.

In addition, Mr. Bogosian received honors in trial practice and earned a top score of 97 at the Appellate Advocacy Invitational, an achievement he credits to the training of his appellate advocacy mentor and former California Supreme Court Justice, Armand Arabian.

Concurrent with his enrollment in law school, Mr. Bogosian completed a summer internship with Santa Monica Family Law Commissioner Bobbi Tillmon where he reviewed, rejected and approved family law judgments and forms.

That same fall, Mr. Bogosian volunteered in the Ventura County Superior Court Pro Bono Family Law Clinic under the supervision of Judge Colleen Toy White. At the clinic, Mr. Bogosian assisted low income clients with child support, spousal support, child custody and domestic violence restraining orders. During his third year of law school, Mr. Bogosian served as the personal legal research assistant to attorney Robert S. Kaufman in Beverly Hills where he learned every facet of the family law trade while providing Mr. Kaufman with the tools necessary to excel in high profile and confidential divorce cases involving many of the top stars in sports and entertainment.

After law school, Mr. Bogosian worked for another celebrity family law attorney, Arlene Colman-Schwimmer, mother of Friends star David Schwimmer. Under Schwimmer and her then partner Edie Wittick Warren, Mr. Bogosian wrote the winning trial brief in the most famous California case involving fiduciary duties of husbands and wives, In re Marriage of Duffy (2001) 91 Cal.App.4th 923. Although the trial court decision was later reversed on appeal, the arguments set forth in Mr. Bogosian's trial brief formed the basis for some of the most important changes in the Family Code relating to management and control of community assets.

Following his tenure at Colman-Schwimmer & Warren, Mr. Bogosian joined the Los Angeles office of the global law firm Morrison & Foerster where he practiced family law with Patricia Phillips, one of the most pre-eminent female attorneys to ever practice in the field.

It was at Morrison & Foerster where Mr. Bogosian won his first of many motions against the celebrity law firm Trope and Trope. His experience at Morrison & Foerster was also highlighted by success in the appellate arena, where he reversed award-winning family law Judge Robert A. Schnider on a Petition for Writ of Mandate to the California Court of Appeal after a complex custody jurisdiction ruling.

While pursuing high end cases with excellence, Mr. Bogosian also found time to volunteer at the Edelman Children's Court in Los Angeles where he facilitated pro bono guardianships and adoptions, protecting the legal rights of more than a dozen displaced children.

After his success at Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Bogosian found a new home at Ventura County's largest law firm, Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton. Immersed in family law, Mr. Bogosian continued his pursuit of excellence at both the trial court and appellate levels.

During his career, Mr. Bogosian has appeared in numerous Superior Courts throughout Southern California, including San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Calabasas, Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Chatsworth, Van Nuys, Simi Valley, San Fernando, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Compton, Pomona, East Los Angeles, Long Beach, the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange County, the California Courts of Appeal in Los Angeles and Ventura, and the Federal District Court in Los Angeles.

After more than a decade of experience at the highest levels of family law, Mr. Bogosian established an independent practice in his home town of Calabasas with satellite offices in Beverly Hills, Burbank, Pasadena, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Woodland Hills, and Westlake Village.

Because of his wealth of knowledge in dispute resolution, his practice focuses not only on resolving disputes amicably but also in preventing disputes through the drafting of premarital and post-nuptial agreements.

Having experienced divorce firsthand, however, Mr. Bogosian also recognizes those occasions where litigation is not only preferred but required in order to ensure and promote justice under the law.

In 2009, Mr. Bogosian took and passed the Certified Family Law Specialist Examination administered by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization.

His interests include world history, politics, art and architecture, economics, backgammon, music, film, television and sports, including basketball, football, tennis and World Cup Soccer.
